Casey Weldon: this artist will Make the Cover of Juxtapoz

Category: Visual Arts/Design

Casey Weldon

Casey Weldon is an incredible Las Vegas artist that is currently living in New York. His pieces can be ironic, funny, amusing, technically skilled,  and profound at the same time.  If you are a fan of Amy Sol or Mark Ryden, you can get one of his pieces before they approach these artists’ price levels.

The first piece I purchased from him was a piece, “More Harm Than Good”,  he did for a Dirk Vermin art show.  The next paintings I purchased from him were “The Buyers”, The Sellers”, and “The Bankers”.  Hopefully, this interview will provide his fans and collectors with some new insights into his artwork.

What are you incorporating from your experiences of Las Vegas into your current art?
I’m not sure if any of my experiences are consciously incorporated into what I paint. Most of the topics are derived from somewhere outside of myself and my surroundings, like pop culture or American nostalgia. Though as much as I try to conjure up on image that is as distant from myself as possible, I think there is a subtle sense of isolation that creeps in here and there. A calm and secure loneliness in a desolate environment. That might be Vegas, or maybe some issues I had before I moved there. Or maybe I’m just making a bunch of shit up to seem halfway interesting.

Who are some of your favorite Las Vegas artists?
The infinitely talented and extremely sweet Amy Sol and boyfriend DU. Mike and Dasha Biggs are fantastic and I’m excited to see more of their post-matrimony collaborations. Danny Roberts is invincible. Joe Watson is a true professional. Brian and Jen Henry crack me up. Roxy and Albert Montoya, Cuca Refugia, Shan Micheal Evan and his girl Jen. A lot of couples out there.

Who are some current influential artists to you?
Jonathan Weiner, Eric White, Erik Sandberg, James Jean, Ronald Kurniawan.

If you could create a piece of conceptual or performance art without regards to budget, what would it be?

Hmmm, it’s never really been my bag. Public conceptual pieces have always turned me off because of their grand nature and their expense. After a big pricey hype, you end up with a bunch of disappointed tourists scratching their heads. I’d prefer something small, subtle, and unassuming. Performance and conceptual art in public places has so much more of an impact when the viewer does not anticipate the viewing. I think that a lot off the street stencil and wheat paste artists, as well as the flash mobs and Improv Everywherians are on the right track. Budget doesn’t have to be an issue, you can save your money for paying the fines.

Below you will find a small respresentive gallery of his larger body of work.

Tyler Ramsey: The Artist with a Fresh Perspective

Category: Visual Arts/Design

 Tyler Ramsey

One may assume that Ramsey spends a great amount of his income on the best paintbrushes available. In fact, he does use the best paintbrushes; his fingers.

This aggressive, intensely felt abstract art was cultivated by overcoming personal endeavors of addiction and reckless behavior. Something that resonated with me was Tyler Ramsey saying; “Find a passion. Go Big. Make an Impact.”

Go to ramseyart.com to view his complete exhibition and purchase.

Jay-Z “Jockin Jay-z” (Teen Wolf Remix)

Category: Mp3's, Music

Check out this new remix from Indiekrush.com Family, Teen Wolf.  About a month ago, Grimehaus had a conversation with a strip DJ that told them they had to check out some of Teen Wolf’s Remixes.  However, like you, they were already in the know. When DJs on the strip are using your remixes, you know you have made it.

Listen to him below and check him out on myspace.

Calabrese, Horror Rock Band, will Eat Your Heart at Say What?! August 30th

Category: Events/Parties

Calabrese

CALABRESE, made up of the brothers brothers Bobby, Jimmy and Davey, are the best horror and death rock band that I have heard.  They have also opened up for The Misfits, Nekromantix, and Tiger Army.  Their last album was “13 Halloweens” and their new album is “The Traveling Vampire Show”.  When I lived in Arizona, they were one of my favorite bands to see at their packed shows.  You can catch them perform at Say What?! Nightmare on Fremont Street August 30th at Beauty Bar.

Watch Your Goats! El Chupacabra Drinks Goats Blood!

Category: Visual Arts/Design

Kid Robot

Illustrator Sara Antoinette Martin’s El Chupacabra lived off goats’ blood and meat until a famine turned this flocked beast into an endangered species.

El Chupacabra will be available August 14th for $50. There are 500 brown versions, but only 250 ghost versions. I love collecting these limited edition Kid Robot toys and they make the coolest gifts ever.  I tried to find a good remix out there with Chupacabra in the title but to no avail.  However, I did find this hilarious video for you instead.

Keen House… Embezzler of German and American Flair

Category: Mp3's, Music

Producer Ken Rangkuty, aka Keen House, is a breath of fresh air. He has the derivative sound of the 70’s and 80’s era with an influence of Hamburg and Berlin’s underground scene… His sound will seduce you and leave you wanting more.

After relocating to Los Angeles from Germany, he’s worked and produced with house djs: Marquis Wyatt, Halo Varga, Kemal, Michelle Weeks and Mr. V. I have a strong feeling that we’re all going to hear more of this guy in the near future. Get your filthy hands on this self-produced EP; “Civic Transit”, out September 9th.

Say What?! Vs. Tilt “Pillow Fight Club” *Event Recap*

Category: Events/Parties

Okay… so let’s just say that there were a lot of really f’n crazy and sexy people in attendance of Indie Krush’s latest installment of “Say What?!” last Saturday, July 26th. The TILT crew from LA invaded Beauty Bar, Las Vegas as we watched everybody pummel each other with these bizarre pillows donning iron-on images of Franki Chan, Steve Aoki, and Grimehaus (Note: there’s nothing quite like getting smacked by a pillow with your own face on it in a mock trailer park setting).

Entertainment proved plentiful with live performances by Pan De Sal (if you haven’t, already, search through our site for these guys… they are BAD ASS!) and Pic Vicious.

DJ Killed By Synth, Grimehaus, Roccanova, ABOM and Know Well handled the turntables after the bands got everybody worked up in a frenzy.

Loving, living, laughing, drinking, dancing, beer pong, etc.

Special thanks to our friends at RobotReport and the Las Vegas Weekly for providing some killer pics to add to our own personal arsenal!

Stay tuned for the next “Say What?!” on Saturday, August 30th as we present: “Nightmare On Freemont Street” (check out the upcoming events section for more details).

Anyway… see you there!
